Recorders Without Borders

Hamomi encourages the holistic growth and development of our students. We encourage children to explore both academic and extracurricular activities. In 2016, Hamomi had the opportunity to partner with Recorders Without Borders, a 3-year program that integrates music into the curriculum. They offered training to our staff in the mastery and teaching of the recorder. Our Caretaker Ben Omuhaka attended on behalf of Hamomi staff. Ben says “The training was interesting. Very simple. We had a good time with Cathy [from Recorders Without Borders]. She took a half an hour and every teacher who was there was able to play. It benefits the kids so much. It gives them a new skill. We were happy to qualify for the second year learner certificate in only one hour. The way she was teaching us – she was really qualified.”

Recorders Without Borders also donated a recorder for every student at Hamomi. Volunteers from the program spent a day teaching students from grades 3 to 8. After a 2 weeks training, 6 students represented Hamomi at a music concert organized by the program. We hope to continue working with Recorders Without Borders and are grateful for their help in enriching the skills and development of our children!
