Believe in Yourself

By Malachi Momanyi

Message from the Staff: Each week, Hamomi has a Theme of the Week. This week has been a celebration week, with the theme “Believe in yourself’”. Over the years our learners have shown a great change in how they perceive themselves. This week, we developed a structured schedule of activities to focus on that work of self-perception. Students were encouraged to submit articles on this theme, and the winner was Malachi Momanyi, aged 14years. This is his article.

My name is Malachi Momanyi. I am in grade eight. I learn at Hamomi Children’s Centre. I believe I can do so many things. I can draw, write songs and poems and play football.

I am also good at public speaking. I first discovered I could do all these things when I was in grade four. This was when my father encouraged me on believing in myself. Since that time I have been practicing on my skills and talents to make them perfect.

I love drawing, when I go home from school; I usually draw some pictures and display them on the wall to make our house beautiful. I also love and writing songs on my own. At school I usually sing during assembly. I can also speak in public without fear; I usually try to give speeches to my friends. I always do it with confidence because I believe in myself.

I can also run very fast. I discovered this when my teachers motivated me to compete in a hundred meters’ race. From that time I have been practicing so hard during leisure and other times. I usually run like one hundred meters every day in the evening after school. During school competitions, I always participate in short races. I believe that one day I will be a champion.

I can also read fluently without straining. I started reading when I was still a young boy. I was in preschool. I could read many storybooks and tell the stories to my friends. I always read a lot of storybooks and tried to write my own stories. When I read a story I always tell it to my classmates. I do this to improve on my reading and writing skill. I always seek assistance from my teachers and parents on creativity and imagination. My teachers have helped me a lot. I have gained a lot of confidence.

I also believe that I can perform any duty assigned by my teachers and parents to perfection. This has enabled me to become a role model to my friends and classmates.
